WHAT ARE THE SCREENINGS LIKE?

Screenings will take place next door to the Wee Folks Theatre so your group will not have far to move. Following the Wee Folks performance, your group will go to the screening room where each child will have a special color photo of his or her eyes taken by the professional staff of FocusFirst. The room will be darkened to ensure children’s pupils dilate naturally. Screenings are completely non-invasive, require no eye drops or responses from the child and typically take less than thirty seconds. Your group should plan on the process taking 15-45 minutes in addition to the show. All screenings are FREE!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once the screening is over, the pictures will be analyzed, and the results of the screening will be reported directly to your school or group approximately four to six weeks after the screening. FocusFirst and Sight Savers America will followup with all of the parents of children in which vision problems were detected for follow-up care.

WHY VISION SCREENINGS AT BCT?

BCT, FocusFirst and Sight Savers America are committed to ensuring that ALL children have access to proper healthcare in a safe, non-threatening environment. Poor vision affects tens of thousands of children in our state each year, leading to poor educational performance, behavioral problems, and low self esteem. In fact, approximately one out of every ten children screened by FocusFirst were found to have eye problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, problems leading to lazy eye, eye alignment problems, and cataracts. Providing vision screenings to young children can help identify and treat many preventable vision problems early in a child’s life, before the problems cause lasting or irreversible damage to a child’s eyes.

Screening sessions are limited, so call us today at (205) 458-8181 to ensure your children have access to this exciting new program at BCT! For more detailed information about the screening process, please contact FocusFirst at (205) 934-0664 or visit FocusFirst online.
