BCT Academy at the Birmingham Children's Theatre, one of the nation's oldest and largest professional theaters for children, draws on a six decade legacy of educating and entertaining over twelve million children. BCT Academy theatre curriculum instills fundamental childhood growth skills: teamwork, interpersonal communication, reading, comprehension, self-confidence, self-discipline and leadership; while fostering creativity, imagination and a playful curiosity. BCT Academy instructors are highly qualified, working theatre professionals. BCT Academy limits class enrollment, ensuring your child will have access to one-on-one instruction. BCT Academy sessions culminate with a performance piece involving every child.
BCT Academy students receive preference in casting for the 2009/10 BCT MainStage Professional Season, including: Narnia, Scrooge the Musical, Zorro and The Wizard of Oz.

ACT ONE: Little Ones
Upcoming 3½ to 5K
Meets M-F, 10:00am - 1:00pm
One or both sessions available

COST: $180/student ($335 for both)
Goals and Focus: Acting and Dancing!
This class will instill the acting basics
of Concentration and the Development of
the Five Senses necessary for actors.
ACT TWO: Primary
Upcoming 1st and 2nd Graders
Meets M-F, 10:00am - 2:00pm
One week session
July 6 - 10
COST: $200/student
Goals and Focus: Puppets and Singing! Building on Concentration and the Five Senses, students will discover how to draw on their Memory of Emotions when working on stage.
ACT THREE: Ensemble (CLASS IS FILLED. PLEASE CALL TO BE ADDED TO A WAITING LIST 205.458.8182)
Upcoming 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders
Meets M-F, 9:00am - 4:00pm
Two week session
July 13 - 17 and 20 - 24
COST: $360/student
Goals and Focus: Storytelling and Physical Acting! Maintaining work on Concentration, the Five Senses and Memory of Emotion, students will learn to identify and utilize Dramatic Action in rehearsal and performance.
ACT FOUR: Supporting
Upcoming 6th, 7th and 8th Graders
Meets M-F, 9:00am - 4:00pm
Two week session
July 13 - 17 and July 20 - 24
COST: $360/student
Goals and Focus: Stage Clowns and Musicals! Continuing with Concentration, the Five Senses, Memory of Emotion and Dramatic Action, students will explore various Characterization techniques in their stage work.
ACT FIVE: Principals
Upcoming High School Students
One week intensive
Meets M-F, 9:00am - 5:00pm
July 27 - 31
COST: $275/student
Goals and Focus: Scenic Design and Performance! This course will introduce Observation and Rhythm to the acting process as students work on a fully staged production presented for the public at our BJCC complex.
EVERY ACT:
Previous acting experience is not necessary! Classes are guided by the Acting Techniques established by Richard Boleslavsky in the Stanislavski tradition. In addition to the specific Goals and Focus, each class will utilize singing, dancing, storytelling, reading, staging, designing and socializing as its core theatre curriculum.
