Young Actor's Theatre
What is the Young actor's theatre?
The Young Actor's Theatre, or Y.A.T, at Birmingham Children's Theatre is designed to inspire creativity, confidence and a sense of community through the exploration and practice of theatre skills.
With theatre classes, productions, one-on-one instruction, and expanded performance opportunities designed especially for students from Pre-K through the 12th grade, there is literally something for every child at BCT. The Young Actor's Theatre will foster a positive, educational climate where children and teens can explore the world of theatre year round with seasoned performers and teachers.
Y.A.T Academy classes take place in the Fall, Spring, and Summer. These classes are cumulative in nature and designed to grow with your child. Theatre is an art to learn and appreciate throughout one's life. With that in mind, classes are structured to build upon skills learned from year to year as your child's social, educational and communication skills mature. We also offer Private Lessons and Master Classes on specific theatre subjects throughout the year.
Professional teaching artists lead students through engaging, interactive sessions in our rehearsal and performance spaces at the BJCC in downtown Birmingham. At BCT, we believe that, through theatre, every child can become more comfortable and confident with their own voices, bodies and ideas as well as become better equipped to work as part of a team. National studies indicate that students who actively participate in the performing arts have higher levels of self-confidence and greater comfort speaking, making presentations, and reading aloud.
No matter the background or experience, every child is welcome to study theatre arts as part of the Young Actor's Theatre. Academy class sizes are kept small so that every child can receive one-on-one instruction.
BCT believes that all children should have access to an arts education! For that reason, we have Scholarships available to aspiring young talent. Please see the Financial Aid page for information.
