BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (LOCAL HIRE ONLY) All positions are Paid.
Birmingham Children’s Theatre is auditioning performers aged 18+ for our 2025 - 2026 Season*.
Priority will be given to our Fall 2025 shows, but all roles in the season are in consideration.
Contracts will be offered for individual shows.

BIPOC ARTISTS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT for all productions.

Most roles in BCT’s season are available for performers of all genders, ethnicities, and abilities. BCT
celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for artists that represent
a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. Actors from all communities are strongly encouraged to submit.

Rehearsals and performances take place Tuesdays – Saturdays between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, typically in 4 to 5 hour sessions. Daytime availability is a must. The production time commitment is 8 to 16 weeks, depending on the show.

In Person Auditions will be held at Birmingham Children’s Theatre on Monday, July 7th, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Please prepare a 60-90 second audition package consisting of a monologue and a song. We are looking for performers with a keen sense of play; and the ability to interact and improvise with audience members. While your audition piece does not have to be from a TYA show specifically, monologues should be comedic and show the energy, boldness, and bigness required for effective Theatre for Young Audiences performance. Callbacks will be held on a later date by invitation only.

Birmingham Children’s Theatre performs in-house at the BJCC in downtown Birmingham and on-tour throughout the southeast for children aged 0-18 and their families. BCT’s productions are divided into three series: MainStage, Wee Folks, and Theatre for the Very Young (TVY). Wee Folks and TVY shows have an accompanying tour. More information on the different theatre series, touring productions, and production time commitment is below in the Production Details section.

Request an audition time by sending your headshot and resume to auditions@bct123.org no later than Monday, June 30th at 5:00 pm. If you are unable to attend the in-person auditions, please email the above address and we will inform you on alternative options.

*Youth auditions will be held at a later date. Email us to be added to the youth performers mailing list.

About Our Spaces

MainStage:

In our 950-seat MainStage Theatre we produce a wide variety of plays including literary classics, historical stories, popular musicals, and new works commissioned by BCT! While the content is always accessible for young audiences, MainStage productions are high-quality, professional, beautifully designed shows the whole family will enjoy - yes, adults too!

Audiences are 6 and older.

Wee Folks:

In the Wee Folks Theatre pre-K and elementary audiences are introduced to structured theatrical performances. Shows in this space often come from the pages of favorite storybooks and classic fairy tales updated for today’s children. Usually (though not always) musical and/or interactive, audiences in Wee Folks are encouraged to react audibly and help our main characters on their story journey.

Audiences are 4-8 years. Approximate performance time: 40-55 minutes.

Theatre for Very Young Audiences (TVYA):

Great for our very youngest theatre-goers, shows focus on the fundamentals of early childhood development while providing an engaging and entertaining story. These shows are always interactive featuring music, movement, rhyme, repetition, and other building blocks of learning. Created to be a “Yes Space” where children and their grown-ups are encouraged to roam, make noise, touch things, and get the wiggles out; and the performances are always relaxed, gentle, and sensory-friendly. Audiences are

0-5 years. Approximate performance time: 35-45 minutes.

Birmingham Children's Theatre hires actors through local and video auditions, as well as attending the Southeastern Theatre Conference each year. Local auditions will be posted to this page when available. You must be 18 years or older to be compensated as an actor.

Students are welcome to audition for our season as well, but must be available during school hours for rehearsals and performances. Youth auditions will be listed separately. If you would like to be added to a mailing list for upcoming youth auditions, please send an email to auditions@bct123.org with the subject line "YOUTH AUDITIONS."
